Just got back from a lovely week stay. I initially found Great Ash Barn via Google maps, searching for dog friendly accommodation. It didn't disappoint. Dog bed, dog towels, treats, poo bags all provided, plus an excellent secure garden and a dog kennel and dog shower in an attached barn where they could be safely left if needed to go somewhere without them. We have a golden retriever and a lurcher, plenty of space for them.
For the humans, there was everything we needed. Probably one of the best equipped holiday accommodation's that we have stayed in. Open plan living area downstairs , plus an ensuite bedroom. Upstairs two more bedrooms and a bathroom.
Lovely Chicken and Goat enclosure that one of my daughter's loved. You could help yourself to eggs in the morning. The owners could also provide a goat experience and dog walking service if needed.
Outside was a lovely patio and garden with peaceful views. There's a hot tub, BBQ and seating.
Only point to make, you need to be a confident driver, the roads are narrow and you will likely need to reverse at some point. Location wise we were quite central, just over an hour to beaches in North Devon, and hour and half to Eden Project.
Many thanks to Steph, the owner, and her son Thomas for making us feel welcome. You have a lovely place.
Such a lovely place very tranquil place to relax and chill very welcoming kids enjoyed the farm feeding the chickens and goats . Very home from home ...
Thank u for a wonderful holiday ....
A beautiful stay on a farm with a spectacular view.
WE had a scrumptious Sunday roast at The Tom Cobley in Spreyton. I wish it was my local! Sandford Cider delicious! Lapford useful for petrol and Spa. RHS Rosemoor is a dream for gardeners and Knighthayes perfect for tea and scones. Instow is such a peaceful place.
We will miss the hens, yes we had our favourites and the very playful and mischievous goats.
THank you for a faboulous stay, treats and delicious eggs for beereakfast.
Easily the best holiday cottage we have stayed in, in the UK.
So comfortable and well equipped!
Lovely views thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and welcome pack.
Many Thanks.
A stunning property with everything you could need and more.
Oozes comfort and space.
Having breakfast outdoors overlooking chickens, ducks and goats, as well as stunning country views is perfect.
You could happily stay put (experiencing farm life, farmland walks, hot tub) and not venture out in the car! But alas Devon is too beautiful to not explore.
When venturing out, don't be intimidated by road users. We are fairly used to Devon roads due to visiting for over 45 yrs but have noticed less tolerance or common sense. So before going into reverse for half a mile check your map. So many times vehicles have a pull in right behind them but choose to ignore that fact and in turn if you have a pull in point a little behind you then reverse into it.
Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful setting. Feeling very lucky to have found this at the last minute. Beautiful part of the world with lots to explore. Loved watching the bunnies in the evening and collecting eggs for breakfast. Would highly recommend for a relaxing break.
Just returned from a fantastic and relaxing stay- the accommodation is as beautiful as it looks in the photos and the views from the patio and hot tub are stunning. The set-up of the barn means it is quite private and separate to the main farm, yet Steph, our host, was available and welcoming if we needed anything. We loved watching the goats and being able to collect fresh eggs for breakfast. The overall location of the farm is tucked away and peaceful, but offers a good central position to explore different parts of Devon. Would highly recommend and already wondering when we might be able to return!
We had a lovely stay at Great Ash Barn. It is a beautiful cottage with a lovely garden and stunning views. It was great to see lots of Mid Devon but also close enough to both North and South coasts to be able to see some of each. We loved being able to collect our own eggs each day and see the lovely goats as well. Our dog loved the garden and was completely at home here. We would love to come back again soon.
We've just come back from another lovely stay at Great Ash Barn. The property is so quiet, with a beautiful view and is very well equipped and very clean and very dog friendly. Steph is so helpful and is close at hand but not intrusive. The new hot tub is absolutely fantastic!
It's in the middle of rural Devon, near Crediton which has some lovely coffee shops and a good range of necessary shops (including Bruce's wine shop!). Some beautiful nearby dog walks available and some local farm shops too!

If anyone is thinking of booking it is a lovely peaceful place to stay it has everything u need ๐ ๐
What a great 2nd trip back at Great Ash Barn! As per our previous trip, we arrived to a lovely fresh baked cake with the other welcoming treats, such as apple juice and milk. That was really appreciated.
We have had an incredible family holiday, all 3 generations loved being here and our daughter Ellie (two & a half) especially enjoyed being with the animals and playing with all the toys, inside and out.
Special thanks to Thomas and Steph for taking us on the goat experience. Ellie loved feeding, walking and getting to know how to stroke goats. Steve kindly took Ellie for a trip round the field on one of the tractors (she was nervous at first but now she can't stop talking about it!). We all miss the morning walk out to see if there are any fresh eggs in the barn for breakfast too.
The cottage is so well equipped, we couldn't ask for more. Thank you all for being so welcoming and for a great time. We can't wait to come back!
The Mawbeys
WONDERFUL place to stay. The barn itself is really well done with a great layout, cozy feel and lovely view. The farm and animals were loads of fun for our 3 girls to explore and enjoy. Steph and her family are so friendly, responsive and took great care of us. Our family has stayed twice and will definitely be back.
Just wanted to say thank you again for a wonderful stay at Great Ash Barn. We had a really lovely few days and as always everything was great.
I'm sure we will be back as it is a place we have come to really enjoy being.
Thank you.
We have had a fantastic week away at Great Ash Barn. On arrival our expectations were instantly exceeded with the lovely cake, apple juice, milk and eggs. Our 22 month old daughter Ellie was very excited to see all the toys to play with indoors and out. We have all thoroughly enjoyed watching the animals and going to see the hens to collect eggs. We also really appreciated being able to walk around the fields to take in more of the stunning views. The cottage is so well equipped- we couldn't have asked for more. We would love to come back again as the holiday has given us so many wonderful memories. Had a tasty meal not to far away at the New Inn, Coleford and enjoyed meeting Captain the Parrot. Cant wait to come back for another amazing holiday.
Thanks to Steph And Steve.

We have very much enjoyed out time here. the brilliant location meant we could take our dog on lots of exciting walks. The cottage is very dog friendly and the owners are very friendly too. All of the rooms were very nice aswell, the open plan loving room and kitchen is very nicely laid out. Once again our stay was absolutely lovely and we will, certainly consider coming again.
WOW! What can we say other than a huge thank you. The cottage is truly amazing, you have thought of everything! We were made to feel so welcome by your whole family and thanks for letting us share your farm with us. It has been truly magical. We cant wait to come and stay again. Thanks.
Purfect, perfect space to spend a couple days. Enjoyed the chickens pure tranquillity, pouring rain with a few rays of golden sun in between. Beautiful bulls, cows, geese, lovely. Thank you. Downstairs space idyllic.
We had an amazing time this week. We enjoyed the long walks seeing the cows, day trips to Crediton and Exeter and spending time as a family. The house is lovely it had everything we needed for the week. We really loved the cream tea to celebrate the coronation. It was made to perfection. We will defiantly be coming back to this beautiful house for a third time.
What a fabulous week!
This place is simply amazing and so relaxing. And neighbours: Highland Cattle, chickens ducks are so lovely. Loved the attention on arrival, cake apple juice and so on, all these things make a trip memorable. Thanks you so much for everything and see you soon for another fab holiday.
We have stayed at the farm a number of times now, as a couple as well as with offspring and dogs at times. Each time we fall further in love with the farm, people and surrounding area. We come from a built up area, with all the husle and bustle, stress and nonsense that's comes with it. The sense of release you find arriving at such a tranquil location, walking into such a beautiful, well appointed and spotlessly clean cottage is staggering.
The place is better in the flesh than any photograph can show and we all find it washes away all the tension of our daily lives.
Steph, Steve, the boys and Bramble (pooch) are genuinely lovely and make you feel so welcome. Tom's egg supply is endless (both Ducks and Chickens) and we particularly love a cuppa on the patio, first thing in the morning with the complete serenity (plus the odd moooo) and fantastic views over West Dartmoor.
It comes to something when you don't want to leave a review, as it will encourage other people to come and intrude on what feels like our little secret! Visit once and I guarantee you will feel the same!
We've just got back to Portsmouth, having spent a fantasticly quiet and restful week at Great Ash Barn and can truthfully say that it's the a fantastically well appointed holiday let in an area without the distractions of modern living. Many thanks and hope to return next year.
Great holiday, fantastic accommodation with amazing views and some wonderful local walks. Definitely stay again.
